The moon and its groove

A short lyrical poem

Dedicated to my dearest friend Jessica and her angel baby

There is a mystery that lingers each night when we lay

of why the moon glistens at night instead of the day

The shapes and shadows always seem to move

and our brightly lit friend is left with its groove

All we remember was that one morning

a man came and sang his life away without warning.

He sang so loudly and cried so profoundly

that all the stars gathered and only his voice mattered.

Great streams of light formed together

and all the creatures of all the world felt a shift in the weather

The seas rose and the waves went crashing

The skies thundered and lightning was flashing

This once jolly man had lost his child

and the pain rose the waters and made him wild.

The last cries of his breath were bouts of love

to adorn the sun and send his music above.

The man sang into the skies and a large storm heard his cries

It formed all over the cosmos and made an orchestra of light

and then the sun set and it became night.

There was only him and his pain and when he finished his cantor he finally felt sane.

His song was the bellow he wished to console, yet silence lingered, and left a hole

He willed his love into the deep dark, feeling the loss and pain, he made his mark.

The form of a rabbit appeared in the sands of time

And the tender dreams of all the mothers and fathers consoled him with their rhyme:

All of our children are not ours to keep

we hold them and love them and allow them to leap

if time does not allow us to share life for long

we cry for our loss and rejoice in their song

for they bring to us a love that no one can give

a song that is sung in darkness as a reminder to live.

This man wailed and laughed out his soul

Pouring his essence into the stars, the sands, and then released himself whole.

He became a form for all to see so clear

a reflection of the sun through the secrets of a sphere

Now today when we look up above

We will forever remember the grandest gesture of love.
